What’s new: Honda took the chance with its slightly revised CR-V small 4×4 to slot an automatic gearbox into the diesel for the first time, as well as increase the 2.2-litre diesel’s power by 10hp to 150hp and improve the cabin.
Excellent: The amount of standard equipment is impressive, and the new automatic transmission is a slick-shifter.
Good: The 2.2-litre diesel has been given more power and refinement, and is up to the impressive standard we expect from Honda.
Average: The running costs are hampered by a high P11D price?for this admittedly top-spec model, with residuals a reasonable, if not outstanding, 36.7%, leading to a cost permile of 67.7p.
Poor: Emissions are a big problem: the auto’s 195g/km is two bands behind its Toyota Rav4 rival, and even the manual version doesn’t get below 171g/km.
Verdict: Very good engine and gearbox combination, but emissions could prove prohibitive for many.
