Citroen has sprung a surprise with a five-seat version of its new C4 Picasso MPV.

The new model is substantially more than a version of the seven-seater, which will now be called the Grand C4 Picasso, with the back row of seats removed – it’s shorter with a heavily redesigned rear end for a far rounder look than its bigger sibling.

Due in April, the five-seat C4 Picasso will come with a choice of two petrol and two diesel engines. The three individual rear seats all fold flat into the floor, and standard equipment includes seven airbags.

The five-seat C4 Picasso gives Citroen a five-strong MPV range, with the Berlingo, Xsara Picasso, Grand C4 Picasso and C8.
