Aimed squarely at the business car market, Vauxhall‘s Tech Line versions of the Astra (and the Insignia) are designed to strike the most appropriate balance of spec, P11D and running costs for the fleet community.
Tested here with the 130hp 1.7-litre CDTi Ecoflex engine, this version of the Astra emits 99g/km and returns a claimed average of 76.3mpg. The clean and economical engine is nothing new, though, and the Tech Line’s appeal lies in its strong and relevant standard equipment list, which comprises satnav, Bluetooth, a DAB radio, USB connectivity, cruise control and 17-inch alloy wheels.
Expect the usual Astra traits on the road: comfort and a quiet cabin that is well defended from road and wind noise are strong points, while the handling lacks the shine of a Ford Focus, and the Ecoflex diesel engine isn’t the last word in refinement.
Verdict: A well-pitched lower medium model for the business car market
