Vauxhall’s quest to renew its engine range with more competitive power units continues, and the petrol 115hp 1.0-litre turbocharged powertrain is timed to coincide with the introduction of the Rocks Air version of the Adam city car.
Vauxhall touts the Adam Rocks Air as having the “toughness of a crossover” with the chassis raised by 15mm and wider stance, as well as protective cladding designed to make it look off-road ready, while the electric retractable fabric sunroof is standard on the Rocks Air models.
This car’s retuned dampers and suspension deals with the complaints about the Adam’s ride quality, while the new turbo engine continues GM’s long-required return to form in terms of keeping up with rivals’ engine technology.
Emissions of 119g/km aren’t exactly class-leading, when Fiat can offer a 500 with 99g/km and just 10hp less than the Adam, and the Rocks Air model is far from cheap, with this top-spec vehicle coming in at more than £16,000.
