Renault has added a new GT Line trim level to sit just below the range-topping performance Renaultsport hot hatch model.

Developed by the Renaultsport team and using some of the 200hp model’s design cues inside and out, the GT Line is powered by a new 120hp 1.2-litre turbocharged engine, which offers 120g/km of emissions and an official fuel figure of 54.3mpg.

The GT Line gets a sports chassis that’s stiffer than the standard car, and the ride is noticeably firmer as a result, and it also uses the EDC auto gearbox from the Renaultsport Clio, which works well enough, with the occasional jerky shift, but a manual alternative would have been nice.

Specification is very good with TomTom navigation, Bluetooth and keyless technology all standard, and the engine offers strong performance, although it doesn’t quite match the aggressive sporty styling.
