What’s new: Porsche‘s progression into the mainstream continues with its first Panamera diesel. The black-pump version of the luxury four-door model will account for over half of Panamera UK?sales.

Excellent: The performance and refinement make it almost unbelievable that this is a diesel Porsche, and will soften the blow aficionados will feel as the brand moves away from solely selling pure sports cars.

Good: Although the hybrid Panamera gets under 160g/km, the diesel’s 172g/km and 43.5mpg combined figures are impressive for a large luxury 250hp car that can still get to 60mph in less than seven seconds.

Average: Those Panamera looks are still very divisive, although most come down on the side of them not making for the world’s prettiest car.

Poor: The fact that there’s only one model in the range means expensive trips to the options list - Porsche claims no two cars leave the factory identical.

Verdict: Feels faster than the hybrid version, despite the figures not backing that up. A?very impressive and enticing model, if you can reconcile the styling.
