Just before the Christmas break our car did something Subarus don’t often do – it developed a fault.

The fault made itself known in the form of a worrying grinding noise from the front left suspension whenever you went over speed bumps or potholes.

One call to the nearest Subaru dealer, which happened to be Walldonway in Kent, and the car was booked in that afternoon.

After we’d dropped it off (and been given a courtesy car) we received a call from the service manager who’d identified the problem as a bracket that needed greasing.

Rather shrewdly he’d also noticed the car was under 500 miles off its first service, due at 12,000 miles, and asked if we wanted him to carry it out the following morning. We agreed and the Legacy was ready for collection 24 hours after we’d dropped it off – an impressively fast, intelligent and hassle-free service.

The cost of the service came in at a fairly average £186 plus VAT. The only negatives were the inclusion of screenwash on the bill and the fact that the car wasn’t washed when we collected it.
