It may have headlined on other Mini interiors, but the Countryman’s ‘rainbow lights’ still get love as they’re not yet widely available with other brands.
When night-time falls, it’s ‘game on’ for ambient light noodling. Flick and hold the ceiling switch and the lights around the interior door handle, centre track, door pocket and ceiling console segue from blue to green, to yellow, orange, red and purple. Just let go of the switch on the colour of your mood. Called the ‘interior lights pack’, it’s part of the pricey £1140 ‘Pepper’ option but that does include a lot of other stuff from auto aircon to smart 16-inch alloys.
Less good are other switches’ functionality. I previously wrote that the electric windows didn’t have one-touch closing because pushing up and holding the centrally mounted window switch didn’t have the desired effect. However, Saffron from Mini Wellsway in Bath, rang in to explain that it will work if you flick the switch quickly, without holding. Happy to stand corrected, but given the position of the switch I still reckon that’s a non-intuitive action.
