The threat of kerbing is a constant danger to our fleet, especially in my case as I park on a tricky, tight and curved piece of road outside my flat.

Yet the E-class’s wheels are still scratch-free, despite passing 10,000 miles. Rather than this being down to my exemplary driving however, a recent chat with Merc revealed that they sit the alloy further inside the tyre sidewall than notable German rivals, so it’s better protected from scuffage. There’s a slight pay-off in terms of visual impact, but that could be a price worth paying if it saves the wheels from blemishes.
