Probably not for the only time while it’s in our care, the E-class’s prestige and pedigree have led to it being pressed into wedding car action.

On this occasion it was the groom and best man the big saloon carried to the big day, although later in the year it may be promoted to bridal duty. The classy looks lent themselves to the car, fully ribboned, playing a walk-on part in some of the wedding pictures outside the rather stately Waterton Park Hotel venue in Yorkshire.

Two weeks later the big Benz was again travelling up the A1 to Yorkshire, this time for the better half’s Dad’s surprise 50th birthday party. Four-up with overnight bags, as we took her six-months pregnant sister and partner, and with a boot-load of party food and birthday cake, the E-class again proved a comfortable and spacious long-distance motor. Comments from the pregnant one in the back backed up previous thoughts about the relaxed ride, while the iPod connection and satnav, which suffered the odd glitch involving closed roads and sudden re-routing after I’d ignored initial instructions, have also been welcome. Overall, our E250 is proving its worth.
