Having had confirmation from other members of the BusinessCar team regarding the wind whistling through the gaps around the Sportage’s sunroof seal while on the motorway, I booked a visit to my local Kent Kia dealer W J King.

About 90 minutes after dropping the car off, the dealer called the office to say they wanted to clarify the precise nature of the fault as they’d taken the car up to 70mph and couldn’t replicate the problem. They then went away and tried again.

I later received another call. They’d tested another Sportage and concluded that the issue was usual for the model, and that the sun-blind was there to do an insulation job as well as protect occupants from the sun. Unconvinced, I collected the car, but it was decided in the office that we should seek an opinion from Kia head office, who said that they were aware of “one or two cases” of excessive wind noise but that it wasn’t a major problem. They also advised us that the dealer should have contacted the manufacturer’s helpline. I passed this on to W J King and booked another appointment.

This time they accepted that there is a problem with the seal, but have to order in a replacement. I’ll let you know how this tale ends when it arrives.
