The Insight has three driving modes.

Firstly, there’s auto, where you shift the gearbox to ‘D’ and set off. Then there’s ‘econ’, when you again select auto but press the green button beneath the wing-mirror adjustment. This remaps the throttle, gearbox, cruise control and aircon, and has resulted in me recording an average economy of 47.5mpg, compared with 43.9mpg when I’m in non-econ mode. Lastly, there’s a semi-auto mode that uses paddleshift gear selectors, although I’m not sure why this sporty option is on what’s ostensibly an eco car.
