Honda calls the rear seats on the Civic Tourer Magic Seats, and if you want some more length in addition to what’s on offer in the boot, or more height than the boot has available, than the branding of the flexible seating is apt – they are magic.

They fold flat horizontally in the conventional way – just pull down the seat backs – but they also fold up flat vertically by pulling up the seat base (see pictures) and then locking in place the bar located beneath the seat.

Both configurations do require an extra bit of bicep, but they’re easy to achieve, and add to the general level of practicality on offer with the Honda estate. That practicality extends to the boot, but more on that in the next report.
