The Focus and I recently undertook two of the most high-pressured drives of my life.

All the car’s safety kit – plus its surefooted chassis and steering that I’m liking more and more although it’s still not as good as the previous Focus – were appreciated on a recent Saturday night drive to the hospital for the

birth of my daughter. The 40-minute sprint to the nearest available hospital – due to the two closer ones being full – meant taking country roads, including a three-mile diversion when the main route was closed. Not helpful.

The Focus is still the king when it comes to country roads, and even though I was taking it fairly easy on pain of death from a screaming fiancĂ©e in labour, the Ford‘s Ecoboost engine propelled us to the hospital just in time.

Equally scary was the return journey 36 hours later. Undertaken at a much more leisurely pace due to the irrational fear of damaging our new arrival, BusinessCar’s Candy Yellow Focus will forever be the car that transported baby Chloe on her first journey.

That colour, however, is really not growing on my partner, and the contents of our baby’s nappies are giving her new things to compare it to. But the yellow is – and I haven’t dared tell her this – appealing to me more than I thought it would. Or maybe I’m just sleep-deprived.
