The TT is getting better and better the more time we spend with it.

Now properly run in, the 2.0-litre diesel Audi has a petrol-like growl rather than diesel clatter. It’s also plenty quick enough to be considered sporty, yet we still managed to average 45mpg over a London to Bruges return trip for a bit of pre-Christmas booze and chocolate shopping.

The coupe’s boot’s also a pleasant surprise – large enough to carry a year’s worth of chocolate plus a few sneaky crates of beer. I feel a beautiful relationship brewing.
