Nissan’s Land Rover Discovery rival in 4.0-litre V6 petrol form, aimed at top-end user-choosers that don’t fancy the noisier diesel.
Excellent
The Pathfinder is huge. It will swallow seven adults with pretty good luggage space, and specification is high on all bar the base-level S trim.
Good
The chunky yet stylish looks work well. The light steering makes town driving less problematic than it could be in such a large 4×4.
The price also hugely undercuts the Discovery.
Average
The 265PS engine pulls more than two tonnes of heavyweight reasonably well, though high speed refinement could be better.
Poor
You’ll struggle to get near the claimed 28.0mpg average in real-world driving. And it’s comfortably in the highest BIK tax bracket.
Verdict
Nissan has modest sales ambitions for the Pathfinder, especially in this thirsty petrol form, but it’s a pleasantly surprising, well-kitted Discovery alternative.
