Why is it interesting?
Emissions of 129g/km make this a viable ‘proper’ off-roader for business users, which still offers a spacious interior and four-wheel drive without extortionate BIK rates.
How are the running costs?
Expensive HSE trim places the Discovery Sport between – admittedly much faster – BMW and Mercedes rivals in the cost per mile stakes at 67.2p. SE Tech trim at 62.4p per mile, however, undercuts those rivals and matches the ageing Audi Q5 2.0 TDI 150 SE.
Any other business?
The combination of stiff manual gearbox and an engine that is somewhat overwhelmed by the Discovery Sport’s heft means that this model feels sluggish pulling away from junctions – much more so than the
139g/km 180hp model, which is also available in automatic form. The 150hp version also isn’t available with seven seats, negating one of the car’s main USPs.
