Kia has revised its value offering in the upper medium sector with the facelifted Magentis and has vastly simplified its line-up.
Gone are the two petrol engines and two trim levels to leave a single diesel engine and a single trim level.
The 2.0-litre diesel engine has been upgraded and now produces 147PS, up 10 on the outgoing model. The single trim level means the car is now loaded with kit, leaving very few options to tick. In fact, the only obvious options are a £1000 for an auto gearbox and £375 for metallic paint.
Kia maintains the Magentis has not only been facelifted and simplified but also had its suspension Europeanised.
While the ride is incredibly comfortable for long motorway journeys, the Magentis doesn’t cope well with twistier roads offering the driver no feedback as to how the car will behave, and has a high level of body roll.
As with much of the Kia range the list price is aggressive at a touch over £17,000, however with a predicted residual value of 25%, according to KwikCarCost, the cost per mile figure of 45.2 pence is only average for the sector – which also sums up the Kia Magnetis.
