If a standard Mondeo isn’t quite showy or quick enough, then this range-topping 2.2-litre diesel might just fit the bill.
The cosmetic alterations turn the fleet favourite into a much more sporty and striking car. The Sports Pack brings 18-inch alloy wheels, a rear spoiler and sports suspension, and our test car also came with the optional heavily tinted rear windows. But good looking though it is, it won’t be to everyone’s taste.
The 175PS engine brings a pleasant burst of pace – 62mph is reached in 8.6secs, 1.2secs faster than the 140PS 2.0-litre.
Sadly, it also brings an increase in cost. This upper medium estate works out at nearly £30,000 once you’ve included options, and offers running costs of 61.5ppm. This isn’t helped by RVs of just 29.2%. But most importantly, while the 2.0-litre keeps emissions under the 161g/km capital allowances figure, this 2.2-litre creeps up to 165g/km.
