Ford has cut the emissions on its Fiesta Econetic by 3g/km to 95g/km, but the bigger news is that the firm’s most efficient model is now available with the full range of trim levels, unlike the previous Econetic that was only on offer in the most basic Edge spec. The eco Fiesta is now sold in mid-spec Zetec or top-spec Titanium trims, meaning drivers can combine fuel efficiency of 78.5mpg with kit that on the Titanium driven here includes DAB radio, Bluetooth, cruise control, climate control, auto lights and auto wipers.

The improvement of 2.2mpg over the previous Econetic’s 76.3mpg has come via a modified engine and gear ratio set-up, aerodynamic tweaks and more efficient tyres.

To drive, the Fiesta Econetic is among the best in class, although there’s plenty of noise from the 1.6-litre diesel engine. But it’s still an efficient package that has plenty of visual and driver appeal.
