Fiat‘s Eco Bravo is the latest model to be shoehorned under the 120g/km emissions barrier.

The 105PS 1.6-litre diesel engine isn’t bursting with power, but is surprisingly quiet and refined.

Impressive noise insulation means the Bravo is much quieter than other low emissions models like Audi‘s 1.9 TDI A3.

However, the Bravo’s closest competitor will be Ford‘s Econetic Focus. Unfortunately, the Italian lacks the assured road holding of its rival, and its steering would benefit from being more direct.

Price is Fiat’s trump card – at £14,035 the Bravo is nearly £2500 cheaper than the Focus. Fuel economy of 62.8mpg and running costs of 34.1ppm are also competitive.

Verdict: A cost-effective and stylish way to cut some money from your drivers’ BIK tax bills
