Citroen has expanded its LCV range with the addition of a van that is also its most capable to date off-road.

The Enterprise is, unsurprisingly given its name, based on the passenger C-Crosser 4×4, which is in itself based on Mitsubishi‘s Outlander off-roader.

The family tree gives a hint to the quality of the C-Crosser Enterprise, as one look at this year’s What Van? Awards (see p15) will reveal. The Outlander is our sister title’s 4×4 Van of the Year, and there’s very little to choose between the Japanese version and the new Citroen.

The big difference is the engine. While the Outlander makes do with an aging VW Group-derived 2.0-litre, Citroen’s 4×4 LCV uses its own 2.2 with an extra 14PS. Yes the extra power costs a little more in terms of fuel economy but it’s a significantly more refined and modern powerplant.

Standard kit includes aircon, electric windows, CD player, ESP anti-skid control and trip computer. Jump up £2420 to the VTR+ and car-like alloys, leather interior and front fog lights join the spec.

Citroen quotes a payload of 743kg excluding driver, maximum towing weight of 2000kg and a load compartment volume of 2.0cu/m.

Verdict: LCV?C-crosser is just like driving an off-roader. Split tailgate helps practicality, although it’s no industrial load-lugger
