What’s new: Chevrolet‘s product expansion continues with the seven-Seat Orlando Mini-MPV, driven here in 1.8-litre petrol form that’s cheaper than the diesel version in benefit-in-kind payment terms thanks to the cheaper P11D price and diesel’s 3% BIK penalty.
Excellent: The Orlando looks a more butch, American-styled vehicle than some of its more sober rivals in the family-orientated sector.
Good: A decent specification level awaits in this mid-range LT model, including rear parking sensors, climate control and an upgraded stereo.
Average: CO2 of 172g/km isn’t great, and will rule out the car from some choice lists, whereas the diesel’s 159g/km figure will see it scrape under the barrier. The engine performance isn’t sparkling, with the Orlando feeling big under acceleration.
Poor: On the motorway, this model desperately needs a sixth gear to both quell the noise and help improve efficiency over long distances. A predicted residual value of 23.7% is also well below average.
Verdict: Looks good and is priced to attract, but the diesel, which is £1250 more expensive, is a better bet.
