What’s new: Cadillac has added the 175PS 2.0 turbo from Saab’s 9-3 to its range, giving it a fleety petrol engine compared to the 2.8 V6.
Excellent: Despite being Cadillac’s cheapest model, it’s still kitted out with climate control, cruise control, leather steering wheel and 16-inch alloys. Find a £21k BMW that well specced.
Good: The looks are still stand-out, especially for the conservative upper-medium sector. The BLS is likely to remain stand-out too until sales pick up.
Average: The engine doesn’t feel as quick as a 175PS turbocharged 2.0-litre should, while emissions of 193g/km put it in the 25% BIK band. Average economy’s not bad at 34.9mpg.
Poor: The usual BLS foibles remain, namely that it’s not on the class pace dynamically and the Saab switchgear that dominates the interior isn’t of the highest quality.
Verdict: If you want something different, and fancy a petrol over a diesel, then the BLS 2.0t is a well-priced option.
