When Alfa introduced the Giulietta in summer last year, it heralded the brand’s most competitive and sensible business choice built in a long time. And in May this year, a 2.0-litre 140hp model offering emissions of 119g/km CO2 was brought on board, making it an even more appealing proposition in the extremely competitive lower medium sector.

The Giulietta rides well enough with decent engine power and a fluid gearbox although it’s not as agile as rivals like the VW Golf or Ford Focus.

It matches the equivalent Golf, the 2.0-litre TDI 140 GT with Bluemotion tech for Benefit-in-Kind tax at 13% while Alfa’s historically weak RVs now almost equal Volkswagen‘s at 34.2% compared to 34.7%. Add in the slightly lower P11D price of the Giulietta at £21,995 versus £22,405, and it only costs 0.3p more than the Golf in cost per mile terms at 50.7p. It won’t be everyone’s pick but this car will be more than welcome on most fleets.
