It may be a small fuel tank at 48 litres, but the 500X easily manages 400 motorway miles to each fill.

Its compact crossover dimensions are not evident from the raised driver’s seat, giving the 500X good forward vision.

Experience shows this 1.6 diesel is the best of the bunch and it feels flexible and refined.

The satin finish of some of the interior trim, which is meant to look like cast iron, just looks like it’s crumpled in the sun.

Why does Fiat persist with a backrest angle adjustment that needs the driver to use body weight to move the seat back? Awful.

I like the decent boot space, but I’m not so keen on the drop to the load floor that makes lifting out heavy bags a chore.

Big buttons and clear information on the touchscreen makes it Etch A Sketch-simple to use when driving.

Rear seat space is good, and better than a Vauxhall Mokka’s, but narrow entrance for feet can catch your toes.

The electric parking brake sometimes releases as I drive off and other times stays on for an embarrassing lurch.

A lot of comments about how the X is not a proper Fiat 500. Should Fiat have called it something else?
