Volkswagen has revealed further details about the new Scirocco, due to go on sale in the UK on 29 August.
VW will introduce the car initially with four engines – one diesel and three petrol – and all will be turbo-charged. An additional diesel will then be added to the line-up in 2009.
The range will kick-off with a petrol 122PS 1.4 TSI capable of 46.3mpg, rising through a 1.8 160PS TSI to the 200PS 2.0 TSI engine from the Golf GTI. The 200PS engine is capable of 36.7mpg.
The 140PS 2.0-litre diesel can return 52.3mpg on the combined cycle. A 170PS diesel will join the range next year.
The Sirocco will be available with an optional adaptive suspension with three settings: comfort, normal and sport.
Other options include the choice of a six- or seven-speed DSG automatic gearbox over the standard six-speed manual.
Although unconfirmed, a Scirocco with more than 200PS is expected to join the range later next year.
