VW has retained its position as the leading vehicle manufacturer in the annual British Insurance Vehicle Security Awards winning three car and two CV categories outright.
Repeating last year’s success, VW’s accolade resulted from satisfying the awards criteria across 11 model ranges by all its models earning five ‘theft from’ standard stars, being equipped with double locking and earning ‘E’ insurance suffixes, by exceeding required standards. VW’s car class winners were the new Sharan in the large MPV category, while the Tiguan took the crossover class, and the Phaeton secured the luxury car sector for the fourth time.
In the commercial vehicle stakes the German brand secured the pick-up plaudit for its new Amarok and the Caddy won the light van title.
Simon Elliott, VW’s CV director, said emphasis on security was particularly important for business users, who depended on their vehicles to make a living and reduced the cost of ownership.
