Another step of emissions reduction is in the pipeline from Vauxhall, with the firm planning a sub-120g/km Insignia late next year to meet Ford‘s plans for a Mondeo under 120g/km in February.
The five-door version will be under the CO2 tipping point, although there’s no word on whether the estate will follow. “The plan has been laid out and we very much see Insignia getting below 120g/km,” Vauxhall UK boss Duncan Aldred told BusinessCar.
Vauxhall is also planning to launch an Insignia Ecoflex in SRi trim. “Business users want sportiness and the cachet of an SRi but with the low benefit-in-kind,” said Aldred. “We’re different to the competition, we sell the eco range and it’s nice to have a headline CO2 figure, but not in a car no-one buys.”
There’s also a sub-100g/km Astra in the pipeline, though no launch date has been confirmed for Vauxhall to catch Ford, VW, Seat, Audi and Toyota in offering a lower medium model into double-digits for emissions.
