The average price of used diesel cars rose in the final quarter of 2017, despite uncertainty about the fuel’s future.
Online portal Autorola said the average price of used diesels sold on its website rose by £294 to £11,123.
This was despite the cars being on average one month older and with 2,000 more miles on the clock than in the third quarter.
In contrast, average prices of petrol cars fell by £163 to £8,495, although on average these were two months older and had done nearly 3,000 more miles on average than in the third quarter.
Overall prices were relatively flat, increasing by £92 to £9,504 – a figure £521 higher than for the same quarter in the previous year.
Average values at Autorola remained above the £9,000 mark in every quarter of 2017, with quarter one, at £9,621, and quarter four showing the highest prices.
Autorola UK sales director Jon Mitchell said: “When you look at the figures both demand and prices for used diesels have been strong during 2017 and continue to outweigh that of petrols.
“Diesel prices are already moving back up to the highs of Q1 2017 and traders who are buying from our website are satisfying consumer demand, which shows motorists haven’t been fazed by unfavourable press coverage over recent months.”
