US 4×4 brand Hummer is to be given an official UK launch, with a network of eight to 10 dealers being established to deal with volume “in the hundreds,” according to Ray Schmit, GM director for Hummer Europe.

The first right-hand drive Hummer will be the H3, due next August, with a diesel version coming to supplement the 3.5-litre petrol in “two to three years”. “We’re developing product very much in line with British needs,” said Schmit. “We need the dealer network completely in place when right-hand drive and diesel arrives.”

Hummer’s European operation is controlled by Kroymans, the same company responsible for Cadillac and Corvette in Europe. Kroymans said it would deal directly with the UK dealers, instead of handing UK responsibility over to dealer group Pendragon like it has with the Cadillac brand.
