Almost half (48%) of UK fleet managers are either already using AI for fleet management, or planning to do so within the next five years, according to Webfleet research.
The study also found that, in addition to the 15% already using AI and 33% actively planning to, a further 43% were considering its adoption in the future.
However, when it comes to the level of influence of new technology on fleet management, more managers picked EVs as the number one factor than AI, at 38% versus 28%.
The research found that 58% of fleet managers believed AI would help to optimise route planning and logistics, while 51% expected it to enhance driver safety, behaviour analysis, predictive maintenance and asset management.
In addition, 50% of those surveyed thought AI would reduce operational expenses, while 47% expected it to automate administrative and compliance tasks.
Beverley Wise, Webfleet UKI regional director for Bridgestone Mobility Solutions, said: “The adoption of AI in fleet management is set to become much more than just a technological upgrade. It will prove a strategic necessity as the world of business enters a new data-driven era.
“Our study has shown that a significant number of fleets recognise the transformative benefits of AI, from cost reduction to improved safety.
“As the industry sets its sights on greater efficiency and sustainability, embracing AI will be crucial for those that hope to remain competitive.”
