Toyota is to introduce a new version of its Yaris Cross small SUV, in the performance-inspired GR Sport equipment grade.

The new variant features retuned suspension, designed to provide sharper handling.

Exterior styling features include 18in ten-spoke alloy wheels, a new rear diffuser, and a gloss black mesh front grille, while inside front sports seats have black Ultrasuede upholstery with red stitching – the latter also featuring on the steering wheel and gear lever. There are also gunmetal silver trim inserts on the doors and instrument panel.

Standard equipment includes a 9in infotainment screen with sat-nav and wireless smartphone integration, along with dual-zone climate control, heated front seats, and privacy glass.

The sole engine option is the familiar 1.5-litre, 116hp petrol hybrid powertrain.

Pre-sales of the Yaris Cross GR Sport in the UK will begin during the third quarter of this year. Prices are yet to be announced.
