Toyota has announced it is aiming to recover 100% of used hybrid batteries in Europe from its own and Lexus’ models.

Currently, the firm has a battery collection rate of 91%, but the firm said it is widening its strategy to target a higher result.

The Japanese car maker operates an internal collection system through its retail network where dealers receive a hybrid battery in exchange for an old one.

This system is set to be rolled out across its authorised end of life treatment centres in an attempt to increase the average figure.

The company also announced an increase to its current battery recycling agreements until the end of March in 2016. The plants used to recycle the batteries are in France and Belgium.
