Toyota‘s new supermini Yaris range, going on sale in late summer 2011, will be joined by a hybrid version offering class-leading CO2 and mpg figures, according to the company.

Although final numbers haven’t been officially confirmed – as the car revealed at this month’s Geneva motor show was a concept version – insiders predict “well under” 80g/km, given the car will use a smaller engine than the 1.8 in the 89g/km Auris Hybrid.

The Hybrid Synergy Drive Yaris will be on-sale within a year of the rest of the new Yaris range, which has already been revealed in its home Japanese market and arrives in the UK this summer.
