Kia has announced its new Ceed small family car will go on sale in the UK on 1 August, with prices starting at £18,295.
The new Ceed will be available as a five-door hatchback and a Sportwagon estate.
Kia says the new hatch is 20mm wider and 23mm lower than the outgoing model, giving a sportier stance and more interior space, while the Sportwagon has near-identical dimensions to the hatch except for a longer cargo area and rear overhang.
Boot sizes are 395 litres for the hatch – a 15-litre increase over the outgoing model – and 625 litres for the Sportwagon, up by 97 litres.
Engine options are 1.4-litre naturally aspirated and 1.0-litre and 1.4-litre turbo petrols, producing 100hp, 120hp and 140hp respectively, and a 1.6-litre diesel with either 115hp or 136hp.
A six-speed manual transmission is standard, while a seven-speed automatic transmission is optional with the most powerful petrol engine and the diesel engines.
CO2 emissions in the hatch with a manual gearbox are 142g/km for the 100hp petrol, 125g/km for the 120hp petrol, 130g/km for the 140hp petrol, 101g/km for the 115hp diesel and 106g/km for the 136hp diesel.
Official combined fuel economy figures are 45.6mpg, 50.4mpg, 47.9mpg, 70.6mpg and 61.4mpg respectively.
Emission and economy figures are improved slightly with the fitting of an optional Eco Pack, which includes an active air flap that closes and opens depending on engine cooling requirements, an underbody cover, lower suspension and lower rolling resistance tyres.
A mild-hybrid system will be made available in 2019.
Onboard infotainment will be via either a 7in touchscreen audio system or an 8in touchscreen navigation system.
Standard driver assistance systems include high beam assist, driver attention warning and lane keep assist with forward collision avoidance assist.
Optional safety equipment includes: lane following assist; smart cruise control with stop and go; blind spot collision warning; rear cross traffic collision warning; smart parking assist, and pedestrian recognition with haptic steering wheel warnings for the forward collision avoidance assist system.
Four trims will be available in the UK – 2, Blue Edition, 3 and First Edition. Full UK pricing and specifications are yet to be announced.
