Workers have been using the snowy weather as an excuse to skip work, according to a senior employment lawyer quoted in People Management magazine.

SAS Daniels partner Jonathan Whittaker said his firm has seen a 40% increase in enquiries from employers about how to handle dubious absences. Many cases involved “utter clots” who had been caught “barging around Primark with their Christmas vouchers” while claiming to be unable to get to work. Around 124 million working hours were lost as a result of travel disruption by the snow, according to researchers YouGov.
