Skoda has uprated the power of its 2.0-litre diesel and petrol engines that feature in the new Octavia vRS.

On sale in August and priced from around £23,000, the diesel sees an increase of 14hp to 184hp, while the petrol is up from 200hp to 220hp.

The car is fitted with a six-speed manual gearbox, and the diesel manages 0-62mph in 8.1 seconds with a top speed of 144mph.

The petrol is capable of 0-62mph in 6.8 seconds and a top speed of 154mph.

Full details will be released closer to the car’s on-sale date but Skoda is also claiming an improvement of up to 19% in fuel efficiency for the new cars.
