Skoda has introduced a new digital assistant function to its range-topping Amundsen infotainment system.

The new assistant, called Laura, is capable of understanding six languages, and is initially being made available with the new Kamiq SUV and the Scala lower-medium hatchback.

It can carry out functions including programming the sat-nav, playing music and sending text messages, and uses the onboard eSIM card to help it respond quickly using both onboard and online data.

Skoda says drivers can interrupt Laura at any time and use a new command without having to wait for the previous answer to be completed, and that during a conversation, the car’s audio system volume is lowered rather than being muted completely.

Skoda says Laura will be rolled out further to upcoming models, and will be improved with the ability to control certain vehicle functions and respond with more flexibility to complete sentences.

It could also be rolled out to Skoda’s mobile and web apps and its online configurator.
