Silver is still the most commonly seen car colour on UK roads, despite a fall in popularity.
DVLA data requested by RAC Insurance revealed that as of the third quarter of 2017 there were 6.6 million silver cars registered, or 21% of the total number on the road – 3% less than when the data was previously compiled in the first quarter of 2016.
Black was the second most popular, at 6.4 million cars, or 20% of those on the road – a 7% increase.
Blue was the third most popular, at 5.8 million cars – 18% of the total, representing a 2% increase.
There were 4.3 million grey cars, forming 13% of those on the road – a 6% increase – and 3.6 million white cars, giving the colour an 11% share of the total – a 27% increase.
Red, green, beige/buff, brown and yellow make up the top ten.
RAC Insurance spokesman Simon Williams said: “Silver is still hanging on to its title of being the most popular car colour in Britain, but black is catching up fast and may well overtake very soon.
“Blue – in its various shades – remains consistently popular but has lost ground on surging black.
“White is the fastest-growing of the really mass appeal car colours as it continues to race up the popularity rankings, now leapfrogging its rival red into fifth.”
