Seat has had a top-secret 4×4 concept leaked on the internet just days before an official unveiling at next week’s Frankfurt motor show.

All set to be one of the surprise stars of the German show, the three-door crossover, dubbed ‘Tribu’, has been described as a dramatic design departure for the brand.

According to insiders production has yet to be approved, but company insiders stress this concept is far from a flight of fancy. Real working mechanicals underpin the Tribu, based on either VW’s Tiguan or Skoda’s, as yet also unconfirmed, Yeti. Expect the production model to be a more conventional five-door Freelander-sized 4×4 than the show car’s 3-door form.

Even if the Tribu never sees the light of day, the 4×4 crossover will be heralded at the German show as the first complete indication of Seat’s new design director’s vision for the brand. In a radical departure from the current Seat trademark look, ex-Lamborghini employee Luc Donckerwolke departs from curves by introducing sharper, more aggressive angles that will almost certainly shape and adorn future Leons.
