Porsche‘s new hybrid version of the Cayenne due next year will go head-to-head with Lexus‘s new RX450h that’s on sale this summer.

Porsche has confirmed the Cayenne hybrid will be powered by a supercharged 3.0-litre petrol engine coupled to an electric motor with a combined power output of 333PS.

CO2 for the Cayenne hybrid will be less than 210g/km, according to Porsche, with a fuel economy figure better than 31.7mpg.

While the Porsche Cayenne hybrid does not beat the impressive Lexus RX450h efficiency figures, the Cayenne’s performance figures are better. Porsche does not reveal a top-speed, but the Cayenne hybrid’s 0-62mph time is 6.8 seconds.

Pricing is expected to be above £50,000.
