A healthcare distributor said it has saved £35,000 a year by using telematics software to monitor driver behavior in its fleet.

PAM Distribution has seen the average fleet mpg of its 16 vehicles increase by 14% after using telematics giant TomTom’s Webfleet fleet management platform.

The platform allows the drivers to correct poor driving on the fly through real-time feedback on driving style via the TomTom navigation unit.

“Our customers often called upon us to make spur-of-moment collections during the day and we can now notify and route the most appropriate driver immediately, via his navigation device,” said Paul Matthews, PAM Distribution managing director.

“We previously had to call drivers, leave them messages and wait for them to call us back, at which point they may have driven out of their way or missed the junction for their next pick-up,” said Matthews.
