Volkswagen is introducing a new, cheaper version of its ID.3 electric car.

The ID.3 Pro features a 145hp electric motor, which sits beneath the launch-spec 204hp motor in the range.

Models with the new motor retain the same 263-mile driving range, thanks to a 58kWh battery. The battery can be charged to 80% capacity in 35 minutes using a 100kW DC charger.

Including the UK Government’s £3,000 plug-in car grant, prices for the ID.3 Pro start at £28,670, with the entry-level Life equipment grade, rising to £32,400 with the Business grade and £33,330 with the Family grade.

VW says further models will join the ID.3 range during 2021, including a new Pure model featuring a smaller, 45kWh battery.
