Average power outputs for company cars have remained the same over the last six years despite a drop in more than 20g/km in average CO2 emissions, according to ALD Automotive.
The average power output has gone from 126PS to 130 since 2003, while average emissions levels have fallen from 167g/km to 146. Engine sizes have fallen as well, from 1915cc to 1787cc in the same time period.
ALD has also seen a drop in the distance travelled by the cars they are leasing. The average car drove 22,475 miles in 2003, but this figure was down to 17,860 for the first six months of 2009.
“With the corporate focus on cost management, businesses reducing their carbon footprint and the Government’s motoring tax regime linked to vehicle emissions, we are seeing a concerted drive towards low emission models that, in many cases, sees the increasing take-up of smaller models, but without any loss of performance,” said ALD marketing director David Yates.
