Vauxhall has revealed the first information and pictures of its new Agila supermini-MPV, arriving in the UK early next year.

In a hefty change in philosophy from the ‘senior citizen’ reputation of the current car, next year’s replacement will be aimed at a younger audience with Vauxhall claiming the new model “could be considered a fashion accessory in the same way as a pair of trainers, a handbag or an iPod”.

A diesel and an automatic will both be offered for the first time on an Agila. The oil-burner is the much-heralded 74PS 1.2, though the majority of volume is expected to be taken by the 65PS 1.0 and 86PS 1.2 petrols. Vauxhall is also claiming class-leading interior space of 1150 litres.
