Toyota will give its all-new Prius hybrid car its European debut at the Geneva motor show next week.

Toyota has also revealed the new Prius will have a combined fuel consumption figure of 72.4mpg and a CO2 output of just 89g/km.

The figures undercut its main rival the Honda Insight hybrid, which comes in at 64.2mpg and 101g/km. However, the Prius is expected to cost £18,000, while the Insight is priced from £15,490.

The third-generation petrol-electric hybrid Prius arrives in the UK in July, powered by a 1.8-litre engine rather than the previous model’s 1.5, which had a 104g/km CO2 emissions figure and an official fuel figure of 65.7mpg.
