Ford has introduced a new seven-speed automatic transmission option for its Puma and Fiesta mild hybrid models.

Ford’s 1.0-litre mild hybrid powertrain – badged Ecoboost Hybrid – uses a belt-driven integrated starter/generator to recover energy mainly lost through braking and coasting and charges a 48V lithium-ion battery pack. 

Puma EcoBoost Hybrid and Fiesta Ecoboost Hybrid seven-speed automatic models are anticipated to improve CO2emissions by more than 5% compared with the 1.0-litre petrol variants.

Ford anticipates that the automatic 125hp Fiesta Ecoboost Hybrid will achieve 48.7-49.6mpg and produce 118-128g/km of CO2 emission under WLTP testing.

In comparison the seven-speed Puma Ecoboost Hybrid with 125hp can achieve a similar mpg figures, but slightly higher CO2 emissions of 129-131g/km.

The brand also expects the 155hp Puma Ecoboost Hybrid to achieve 47.8 and 48.7mpg, with CO2 emissions between 131-134g/km.

However, the manual variants of the Ecoboost Hybrid produce less emissions, with the Fiesta 1.0-litre Ecoboost Hybrid with 125hp producing 114g/km of CO2 and the Puma with the same powertrain, 127g/km of CO2.
