Audi has revealed its all-new Q5 off-roader at the Paris motor show.

Set to go on sale next spring, the Q5 will be powered by three engines from launch – a 252hp petrol which returns 41.5mpg, a 190hp 2.0-litre diesel, and a 286hp 3.0-litre diesel.

Efficiency information has not been revealed for the two diesel models other than the firm saying the fuel consumption for the lower-powered model has been “significantly reduced” from the current engine’s 150g/km of CO2 and 49.6mpg.

Side

Audi claims that 90kg has been shaved from the vehicle’s kerbweight thanks to a more prominent use of steel and aluminium.

Inside, the German car maker is offering the firm’s 12.3-inch Virtual Cockpit – which already appears in several other models – as an optional extra for the first time on the Q5.

Base models, meanwhile, get a seven-inch touchscreen, while higher-end models receive the larger 8.3-inch unit.

Rear

According to Audi, the car’s satnav has a self-learning feature, whereby it learns the routes that the owner takes on a regular basis – for instance, a commute – and uses the information to suggest more optimised routes.

Also optionally available is an Audi connect module which includes a wifi module, allowing passengers to go online with up to eight mobiles. If going abroad, there are flat roaming charges for many European destinations, too.

Inductive phone charging is also available via the Audi phone box, while iPhones are also able to connect to the vehicle via the Apple CarPlay software.

Inside

Audi’s predictive efficacy assistant features in the Q5, which helps drivers save fuel by using information on the surroundings, while adaptive cruise control and an active lane assist function is also included as standard.

“The first Audi Q5 was for many years the world’s best-selling SUV in its class. It was no easy task to design its successor, but that is precisely why it is so very exciting,” said Rupert Stadler, chairman of the board of management at Audi. “With the new Q5 we are setting the bar a notch higher. Among the great innovations are the Quattro drive system with ultra technology, highly efficient engines, the air suspension with damper control and a comprehensive line-up of infotainment and assistance systems.”
