Audi is adding a second, more powerful plug-in hybrid powertrain to its A3 lower-medium car range.
Badged the 45 TFSI e, it sits above the 40 TFSI e in the range.
The new powertrain pairs the same 150hp petrol engine and 80kW electric motor as the existing powertrain, but revised management software means the combined power output is upped from 204hp of 245hp – matching the A3’s VW Group cousins the Volkswagen Golf GTE, Skoda Octavia iV vRS, and the upcoming Cupra Leon e-Hybrid.
With the A3 45 TFSI e, a 13kWh battery allows an electric driving range of up to 37 miles on the WLTP cycle.
Official fuel economy and CO2 emissions figures are up to 235.4mpg and from 29g/km respectively.
The new powertrain comes with an exclusive S Line Competition equipment grade, including features such as a black styling package, and graphite grey alloy wheels with red brake callipers.
The A3 45 TFSI e will arrive in the UK early next year. Prices are yet to be announced.
